Emma is a 5 year old sweet tempered tri color Basset with a beautiful head. But because of very poor breeding, her structure is bad. She has shoulder dysplasia, which makes her front elbows stick out from her body, making her walk in a abnormal manner.
She also has what is called “Knuckling over” in her front legs, which Bassets are prone to if not bred by people who know the breed. Emma’s back is “roached” which means rises up in the center, or looks like it’s humped. She has hip dysplasia so she wobbles in the rear when she walks. We have her on a medication for arthritis that makes her able to move easier. Her tail is up now and while she still moves in a wobbly fashion, she is happy & plays with the other Bassets. For now life is much better for her. She is so sweet and loving. Even before the pain meds, she didn’t have any "accidents" in the house; she was determined to go potty outside. She is such a good girl. Emma's personality has blossomed! She is full of playfullness & spirit. You cannot help but love this girl!
DBHR believes in educating the public about responsible Basset breeding… Emma is the perfect example why.
