Although Lola is still a puppy, she's starting to out-grow the hyper puppy stage... She'd be GREAT for a family who doesn't want to go through the training of a puppy, but still wants a young dog! She still likes to play (with people & other dogs) and isn't agressive and doesn't mind being the lowest ranking dog in the pack. Of course, since she is a puppy, she still tries to find-out how she fits in the pack... she has tried to push her limits a few times with different members of our human foster family, but with a gentle but firm & consistent hand we have corrected her and she understands her place.
Our time with Lola has been uneventful, peaceful & relaxing. Although she came to us needing to be housebroken, she was easy to break and eager to please. She also crate trained easily and now spends her nights (and any time during the day when we aren't there) in her crate without any complaints. Of-course the treats she receives as a reward for going into her crate has helped with the transition!
She learns quickly, not only from her humans, but from the other dogs as well. For instance, she's learned that when my dogs get bored or tired of her and decide they are done playing, she can entice them into a little more play if she offeres up a toy they might like.
But most of the time she spends on my lap, getting petted and trying to give kisses. Yes, bassets really are just larger than normal lap dogs!
